News - (May 11th, 2008) Region I Amateur Cup Qtrs: Hawks Fall Flat in Pennsylvania (Oakford, PA - 2 PM - United German Hungarian Club) The Hawks lost in Amateur Cup regional play today 1-2 versus United German Hungarians. After an Anders Kelto goal in the 5th minute, the Hawks appeared to be on their way, but the combination of uncharacteristicly poor team performance and a determined UGH squad proved insurmountable after 90 minutes. UGH tied the game in the 25 minute mark on a header off a set piece. In the 35th, they took the lead off a questionable off the ball foul that lead to a PK conversion and a 2-1 margin. The Hawks had plenty of opportunities to tie the game, but they were missed and a win was not in the cards. Congratulations to UGH, who played with heart all game long.
The Hawks will need to put the setback behind them quickly, as a Region 1 Semifinal matchup with the New York Pancyprian Freedoms will be played on Sunday May 18th, with a berth in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup at stake.
