Winter 2012 - Hawks Begin National Cups Qualification With the Fall league season complete, the Hawks are back to focusing on National Cup qualification and the hopes of qualifying for regionals for the 7th straight year. The Hawks have entered the US Amateur Cup, the US Open Cup, and the O30 Cup and must earn a state championship in each in order to keep national title hopes alive. After a foray into MD last year, the squad has returned to DC/VA affiliation. US Amateur Cup The squad won MD's Amateur Cup title last year but fell 1-0 in the 2011 Region I Quarterfinal to WPL rivals Atletico VA. The Hawks will compete with 8 other DC/VA teams to determine a representative for Region I play and the hopes at the national title claimed by the 2009 team. US Open Cup This year the Hawks will look to reestablish their presence in the regional rounds, after failing to qualify for regionals in the tournament for the first time in 6 years. The Hawks will look to accomplish feats of the 2007 and 2009 squads that qualified for play vs. professional sides after advancement to the Region I finals of the tournament. US O30 Cup The Hawks will enter the US O30 Cup for the second consecutive year. Last year's team battled injuries and absences of key players but fought admirably before succuming in double OT in the MD finals.

Posting the strongest offense (25 GF) and defense (7 GA) in the league and beating eventual Fall WPL champions Reds United 5-2 did little to cover the disappointment of missing out on a 9th WPL title. Nonetheless, the Hawks had plenty to be happy about as the rebuilding process continued and all eyes look forward to the promise ahead of another challenging national cup season. The squad is looking forward to continued improvement
