2004: Hawks 0 – Reds – 4
An all-time low is the only
way to describe the weekend's events. The Hawks entered the weekend
ranked first in the league, and leave ranked 5th after two of the
most lopsided victories ever recorded against a Hawks side in the
club's history. One day from a 0-5 drubbing at the hands of LCC,
the Hawks fell to the Reds 0-4.
The Hawks had a promising start
to the match, controlling possession and having several solid shots
on goal. Confidence in the outcome was high on the squad. It all
came to a shattering halt when Reds was able to fortuitously knock
in a rebound shot to the back of the net in the 35th minute. Unfortunately,
the goal had a visible effect on the Hawks play and cohesiveness.
A second goal was earned off a corner kick 5 minutes later and the
Hawks went in at halftime down 2-0, lacking confidence. The second
half was a display of poor decision making and a resolute Reds defense
keeping the Hawks at bay. At the final whistle, the Hawks were left
dismayed, scratching their heads, and looking for answers. Perhaps
the upcoming bye week is actually needed to let players heal the
physical and mental wounds from the weekend. The Hawks next take
the pitch Nov. 7th vs. Rangers FC in their last regular season game.
The National Amateur Cup will also be played and the Hawks will
face the Fan Rats (Richmond) or LCC in that matchup, which will
most likely take place on the weekend of Nov. 14th.
